Dear Scholarship Donor,
Thank you in advance for financially supporting Kennedy in the academic pursuit of
educational excellence. Kennedy was readily accepted by an International School for
the 2nd grade Spanish immersion program during the 2009-2010 academic school year in Atlanta,
Georgia. The International School curriculum supports the International Baccalaureate
Diploma Program (IBDP). The IBDP provides a rigorous pre-university course of studies that
prepare students for examinations to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary school
students.
Miss Kennedy has fluently spoken Spanish since the age of 18 months. As a native Floridian,
Kennedy attended a Bilingual Preschool in South Florida from the age of 18 months to
5 years old and graduated in June 2007. VIP Kids, a private Hispanic preschool, offered
Kennedy a grass root experience in 2003. With Kennedy’s advanced gifted learning abilities, the
school encouraged her success in the foreign language and implemented the school’s signature as
a multicultural school that greatly influenced Kennedy’s academic achievements.
In July 2007, Kennedy and her mother, relocated to Atlanta Georgia from
Miami Florida. As a single mother, her mother was determined to continue Kennedy’s
exposure to Spanish and the experience of other cultures. She searched for a strong
Spanish tutor as the public school Kennedy would attend did not provide any second languages.
The search was unsuccessful for quite some time. In January of 2008, the tutor search ended
when Senora Smith (private Spanish instructor) became an acquaintance of the family. Kennedy
has been working extremely hard with Senora Smith. According to Senora Smith, Kennedy is
performing at the highest level of success.
According to Senora Smith, “Kennedy is an exceptional child. Her writing and reading skills far
surpass that of an average eight year old. Her grasp of the Spanish language is incredible which
makes my job very easy. I wish I had more students like her.”
The family’s primary goal is to place Kennedy in a Spanish instructional setting, allowing
daily language and communication exchanges. When the opportunity arose for Kennedy to attend
the IB Program, financial aid was denied per an appeal committee decision on June 1, 2009. Unfortunately,
the present financial conditions faced by many during the overall economic hardship of our
country has not bypassed our family. However, the family determination has not
wavered in search of financial support for Kennedy’s admissions of the International School. School officials have
promised to hold Kennedy’s placement for attendance for the following school year. Presently,
Kennedy attends an elementary school in the Public Schools and is enrolled in the
Talented and Gifted Program (TAG). Kennedy understands that she is an asset to any institution and has
focused on seeking funds necessary to her education of choice. Kennedy has positioned herself to
be an In-Kind Student Scholar to organizations and businesses that sponsor a youth spokesperson
to represent their company.
